In Federal Way intimidation offences rose 34% in the first half of 2026 — from 86 incidents to 115 — while property crime fell sharply over the same period, with vehicle theft down 54% and residential burglary down 51%.

That split matters more than either number on its own. Cameras, lighting and locks have become very good at the crimes that are falling. They do nothing about the person standing in a leasing office refusing to leave, or following a resident into a parking structure. Those incidents are rising, and they are the ones that need a trained person on site rather than a device that records what happened afterward.
